Re: (ET) Just received my Alltrax today!
Just a few things I did with the E15 conversion that come to mind. Some
of
them might be considered "lily gilding," I suppose.
1. Used all new wiring behind the panel, color-coding the wires to make
them easier to trace should I ever need to do so. I also documented the
wiring with a diagram. (I really should have replaced all the high power
wiring too, but it was wintertime and I got lazy.)
2. Made up a speed control with bits of a used Solectria 5k potbox and a
reversing toggle switch. I sized it so it just fits where the old GE slam-
lever was. This unit plugs into the rest of the wiring with a molex plug,
just as the GE gadget did. I wanted to use a foot pedal, but the
logistics
of that didn't work out. Maybe later.
3. Added a reverse beeper using a little radio shlock piezo gadget and an
IC adjustable voltage regulator to drop the 36v to ~12v. I found that
without this I'd forget and leave the tractor in reverse, then get a
surprise. I'm just too used to the old GE pull back to back up, push
forward to go forward. (If I were doing it over, I might dope out a way
to
do that style of f/r with the potbox, instead of having a reverse switch.)
4. Moved the contactor from the Alltrax recommendation. I found that
mounting the contactor on the controller, as the Alltrax sheet recommends,
gave me clearance headaches. I left a contactor mounted in the bottom
factory location, and mounted the controller above it.
5. Replaced the underhood fuseholder, which was getting flaky, with a new
marine type fuseholder.
If I remember anything else, I'll post it.
