Very possible.  My Black & Decker MM-450 corded push mower uses a brushed 
PM 
motor and a bridge rectifier.  I think one reason is that it allows them 
to 
short the armature when it's shut off - the resultant plug braking means 
that it stops RIGHT NOW.

Check the surplus vendors and Ebay.  There are lots of alternatives; it 
doesn't have to be a similar motor as long as you can figure a way to 
fudge 
the mounting and blade attachment.  I once borrowed an older electric 
mower, 
a Toro I think, that used an ^enormous^ (and rather heavy) motor that 
appeared to be, and sounded like, an AC induction motor.  It really did 
the 
job, and had a LOT more guts than my B&D.
