Re: (ET) Electrak Nichrome Ribbon for speed control / Welder - Any Alltrax users want to sell their old resistor plates ?

A few thoughts on resistors:

- Golf Cart Part companies sell nichrome resistors.

- To measure the resistance all you need is a simple voltmeter, ampmeter, 10 ohm resistor and flashlight battery.  Clip the volt meter on each end of the resistor.  Next to the volt meter leads (but not touching the voltmeter leads) attach the amp meter in series with a flashlight battery resistor and amp meter.  Record the amps (should be about 1.5/10 = .150 amps) and volts.  Divide the volts by amps to get the ohms.  Typical example .017 volts / .150 amps = .113 ohms.  This aproach allows you to measure micro ohms with two $10 meters.  It is a called a 4 point method.

- My e12M has two .1 ohm resistors.  The traction motor is .1 ohm so the starting current is; 120 amps with both resistors, 180 with one resistor, 360 with motor only.

Hope this helps

After looking at my spare nichrome ribbon plate from my E-12, and noticing
it looks really similar to Don's Welder pictures (though I don't have
dimensions), I also get the related idea (DUH !) - just get more of these !

So . . .

To: Anyone who has converted to AllTrax or 4Quad electronic speed control
(or anyone else who has parted out a machine)

Want to sell me your leftover nichrome ribbon speed control plate ?
