Ok, I'll drop my resistance: The Landis controller seems to work.

On a related note, I have been watching the charge current on my 
seperate set of AGM batteries. When the packs get to 44.5 volts (the top 
of my charger) the current thru the AGMs is only 50ma.

I'm not sure of the current thru the rest of the pack, but this might 
explain why the timer doesn't seem to cook the batteries: The charger 
tapers itself off as it approaches 45 volts. Also probably explains why 
it takes so long for the batteries to get back "in sync" when they're 
discharged unevenly (as when you use the lifts a lot or you rig a 
chainsaw to run off 24 volts only). Once the front pair hit 7.5 volts 
each, the current thru the rest drops like a rock. Thus it takes forever 
to equalize.
