Re: (ET) Skipping steering

By removing the steering shaft from the control cabinet, yes. The nastiest part will be removing the steering wheel from the pinion shaft without destroying the wheel. Take some time to grind some material from the sector shaft support, where the pinion gear rests. This is a trial and error procedure, to ensure maximum penetration of the pinion gear into the sector gear. While fiddling with this, it is also a good time to adjust the sector to support clearance, again to maximize gear tooth contact. After completing these procedures, then you will be able to see how horribly loose all the rest of the steering linkage is. <G>

Subject: (ET) Skipping steering

That is a problem with my E20 as well, especially with the plow on the front. Even with it off it skips every once in awhile.

My guess is the steering gear is going. According to the manual the steering shaft can be removed from under the tractor. Is it possible to replace the pinion gear?

Chris
