And are you using "helper" springs. I tried my snowthrower without 
springs, and my mower deck originally came with only one spring. When I 
finally got two strong working springs installed the lift speed, and 
current needed were incredibly though not suprisingly improved.

I mistakenly thought the springs would reduce the effectiveness of the 
snowthrower, noticed no difference there.
