RE: (ET) Hard to find parts

Before I got a GE tiller, I adapted a Sears. It worked. The hitch was
the biggest problem; I
made a category "0" for the GE which stuck out the back by another foot.

I have given (brief) thought to finding three 12V motors in series for the
deck. Starter motors
are big enough (but designed for a VERY short duty cycle) and might be
adapted. RPM would be an
issue, but modern ones have a planetary drive which could be changed. One
would have to add a
bearing that could take the shock, and at that point it gets too
expensive. Get them while they
are available.

BTW, I have a motor that Bill told me (without seeing it) went on a rotary
broom. It's in good shape.
It's a basic large dia. mower motor, but with a very short flange and a
small pulley. I can save it
for re-flanging if a deck motor dies, but I suspect anyone with a rotary
broom might want it as a
spare. If so, e-mail me. We might have a list of parts that are
available. The problem is, I
still have at least 4 brackets and hitch parts that go to something but
who knows what.

Original is heavy sheet, could be replaced by welded-up channel and
thinner sheet.

Could be a big problem, but not often needed. Can something else be
adapted, or should someone collect all junkers for rebuilding?

Are there any so special that there aren't equivalents?

Equivalent used in other tractors?

Many can be fabricated from steel. Dash and front cowl could be
fiberglass.

Alltrax. There are so many problems that this solves.

Fiberglass for most, acrylic for lenses.

There must be an equivalent somewhere. Adapt from Electric Tractor
deck? Rod?

Already discussed.

No good answer. Accessories could be where we are hit hardest.
