Right, but who says you can't unbolt the mounting bracket from the deck and rotate it 180 degrees?

Simple enough. Yes the mower power cord will be too far to the right, but that can be fixed with an extension cord.

On both of my mower decks, the bracket that attaches the mounting arm to 
the
mower deck won't let you swing it 180 degrees.  There's a stop bar that 
sort of
suspends the mounting arm 60-70 degrees up in the air.
