(ET) RE:New Technology

        Hi My 2 cents

I have a friend who owns a lift truck repair company. He has been
working in electric and EC lifts for close to 30 years. So, when I show him
a relay or contactor from one of my ETs he can tell me to part number and
manufacturer just by looking at it. He has been replacing
electro-mechanical
control with controller boxes as upgrades and rebuilds for the last 10
years
or so. He is convinced the controller box is the only way to go. In terms
of reliability, ease of repair and installation and surprisingly cost. A
couple of new contactors and a replacement relay will set you back dam near
the price of the controller and if you factor in the labour they are way
over the top.
So gutting a fully functional ET doesn't make a whole lot
of
sense. But replacing the entire electro mechanical system with the new old
technology doesn't make a lot of sense either.
                So the way I see it the  things to consider are;
1) Which technology are you comfortable with.
2) Your budget.
3) Are you restoring as a collector or rebuilding for a work horse
4) Condition of Tractor to start with.
5) Finally the tractor, a contoller in a E10 (which has a constant
speed motor) is not the same as a Controller in a E15.

Personally, All of the above apply to me.

Having said all this it is really nice to get rid of that rats nest
of wires, with a controller board.
