Take a look at the john Deere e90, there was also a cub cadet and an 
avro-case where they took an IC chassis, stuffed in an electric motor, 
put motors on the mower blades and batteries in the leftover space.  
Could be repeated easily, go to solid state controls if you wanted.  
Maybe someone like MTD would be approachable, they build for a lot of 
retialer.
