RE: Re: (ET) Coasting with E20
All,
If I remember correctly, the braking approach changes slightly with the
(nearly in production) Alltrax Sep-X controller. Didn't I see something
about it automatically sensing motor rotation when the speed control is set
to zero and supplying enough power for the opposite direction to keep the
motor from turning? If so, then your brakes are really only needed for
parking. Thoughts (Steve)?

Hello Lee and all,
I would not do number 3.
I have had the brake interlock switch fail on my E15.
You will not be able to stop an E15 with breaks against motor, the motor
will overpower breaks.
This is a really bad thing if you are close to an obstacle.
Its not bad if you have enough time to yank back on the throttle.
I have not experienced a break switch failure on my C185.
But the breaks do not work on this tractor any how.
I do have the new brake kit. no time yet.
I did have a few wild rides down my 13 % grade driveway on the c185
before Jim C. schooled me about keeping the throttle down.
Thanks again Jim.
Jeff

From Lee in the hills of Tennessee:
Prescription for maximum regenerative braking:
1. Use an E-15. No foot pedal to worry with. Another reason I like the
E-15 better than the E-20.
2. Disable the seat switch. No lost braking on the first bounce.
3. Disable the brake switch. No lost braking when you use the brake.
4. Use the same gear going down the hill that you use going up.
5. Set the hand throttle in the 3rd position, the position for the most
efficient pulling AND braking.
(The equivalent of 'cruise control' on the E-20, I think)
And you will go down the hill not much faster than you went up.
