Re: (ET) General discussion of motors

Good idea for a thread Geof. I personally would like to see a list of model
and serial number range vs. year of manufacture. Having the motor info, etc
would be good too. I wonder if Bill Gunn would have that data?

Anyway I think I can answer part of one question (#4). One boring day I
prowled around the GE site and found just a little info on motors. The best
thing I ran across was on the last page of the small DC motor brochure
there
was an exploded view of the small mower motor (or something that looks
exactly like it) It's a 5BPA34NAA7A. Don't have the link anymore, but I
could probably find it. I do have the PDF brochure. I think I also found
something that looks like the snowblower motor.

I would think that all of the motors would be GE, as I imagine a big reason
GE went into the tractor business was to 'sell' motors.

Subject: (ET) General discussion of motors

Hi
I am hoping to start a bit of a thread here and I hope that the
discussion is informative both from a historic and technical perspective.
The questions are.
1.) When GE refers to large and small frame tractors are they talking
about the motors as in large frame and small frame or the steel backbone of
the tractor.
2.) What type of motors are in each of the models and the accessories
and who manufactured them
-Large frame?
- permanent magnet
- Shunt wound
3.) The E12's GE seem to have used a large frame motor, while in the
B145 Wheelhorse seems to have used a small frame is this correct?
4.) Clearly the big motors in the tractors, blowers and cultivators are
GE are the motors in the mower decks and small frame tractor GE as well?
