No, they're really more for PM motors.  But you can retain the original 
field weakening circuit.  Another possible approach to getting the top 
speed 
back (if you need it) would be to switch over to 8 volt batteries and push 
voltage to 48 volts.  Of course that opens up yet another can of worms.
