Hey Hump...  And everyone else....

You should always leave your hood and seat open when charging, and not for
the reason of forgetting to unplug the charger.

When charging the batteries give off hydrogen gas.  Leaving the hood
(especially the hood because of the charger timer 120 VAC contacts) and 
seat
open to allow faster disapation of the hydrogen gas.
