Paul:
Don't get paranoid! Many net users have a "NO SPAM"
built into their names that must be removed. I do that myself when
addressing newsgroups because without it I would receive even more junk
mail from Korea than I already get. However, it may make your life
inconvenient because failure to remove it will cause the mail rejection you have
been experiencing. I note from your e-mail that "Don Barry" may be a
particular problem for you, and there doesn't appear to be anything unusual
about his e-mail address (no NOSPAM included), but I wonder if your Internet
Service Provider has a more-or-less mechanical problem with mail
delivery. My ISP will reject my outgoing mail if my address doesn't look
legitimate, so I am not using the "nospam" here.
More importantly, the scanning of manuals has been discussed
on this list extensively over the last couple of years, and it has never raised
hackles. I think it is a very legitimate concern for this group.
What's the point in preserving the ET if you don't preserve the
documentation? I can't see why exploring that subject should be a problem,
and I am quite sure it isn't the cause of your mail problems. I had, in
fact, proposed that I could do some scanning some time ago, and it had no impact
on my incoming or outgoing e-mail. I gave up on it for some reasons
related to technology, cost, and copyright that may have been resolved in
the meantime, but I want to assure you that there was never a heated discussion,
any ill will, or any problem resulting from that rather extensive discussion
about archiving publications.
