That's exactly what I was going to suggest, also, Harold.  I've used the mower motors to run a piston orchard sprayer pump, and it overheated and kicked out, especially on warmer days. Other than that, it was excellent....... (noise wise & starting & stopping from the seat). The snow blower motors are  excellent.  I just didn't have a spare one then.

A spreader takes a lot of power, that 1 hp or so mower motor won't hack
it.
