Sounds like the reverse relay is stuck on. This could be a mechanical
problem in the relay itself since the relay is 'open-air' and easily
damaged
(personal experience). It could also be the microswitch that triggers the
reverse relay is stuck closed. In particular:
Do you hear the reverse relay click when you push the throttle to the left
from neutral? If no, then the microswitch may be stuck closed or the wiring
is screwed up. The microswitch is located in the throttle assembly and the
switch 'arm' can be seen thru the slot the throttle moves in. The relay
itself is located (from the driver's seat) to the right side of the mower
behind the panel that bolts to the battery side of of dash (access from the
front battery compartment).
I have had to 'recondition' the microswitch, 'adjust' the relay, and
correct
a few spade lug connections to the relay. I think these are all not
uncommon
items that can cause trouble.
A word of warning! Do not close the hood while the panel is loose in the
battery compartment, as the hood stiffener will come down on the reverse
relay and give you additional things to fix. Of course that has never
happened to me.....
