Be careful if you cut the studs off while the batteries are in the
ET battery box (especially the rear). I rotated the batteries in
my E16 a few years back, swapping the first two with the last
two, and the middle two with each other, to let them 'equalize'
over time. The 2 batteries that were in the front box still had
the studs on them when I placed them in the rear box, and didn't
notice it until I tried closing the cover (naturally, newbie EV guy).
So I pulled out the grinder and put a cutting disc on it, and
proceeded to cut the 4 studs off flush. As each one was nearly
cut off I twisted it off with a pliers and dunked the hot metal
into a nearby vessel of water. Except for the last stud. That
one I cut off all the way. It fell off the post, and rolled until it
rolled off the battery and wedged between the battery and the
battery box wall, and proceeded to melt a hole in the battery!
Nearby vessel of water was immediately doused onto the
offending hunk of metal. I then had to remove a battery to
get at the darn thing that was now wedged/melted into the
battery case. Fortunately it didn't burn through the case.
Moral of the story, don't repeat my mistake :-)
