Sure is!  That was the original concept behind the tractor from Electric 
Tractor (Canadian company).  It steered with a joystick.  Last I heard, 
they

had abandoned it because of the immensely increased manufacturing (and 
selling) cost.  Nobody was willing to pay (I think) CA$8,000 for it.
