Re: (ET) e12 hybrid?

It is worth underscoring the idea that ElecTraks are deliciously emissions-free (at the point of use, anyway!) and adding an ICE is a little bit point-missing from one perspective on the use of these fine workhorses.

The hateful thing about ICEs in general is that only about 10% - 15% of the potential energy stored in fuel makes it to useable mechanical energy (the rest is waste heat), and then, as Larry mentioned, you have another stage of loss through energy conversion from mech E to electrical E.

Even with transmission loss to you from your local coal, gas, nuclear, or municipal waste incinerator, etc., the efficiency of such large-scale energy converters (I scrupulously avoid the word "producers," they don't *produce* energy (as if from thin air), they convert it) is worth considering.

Any thought to additional battery capacity, as with T-135 (instead of T-105, for instance), or, like with my "back porch" for snowthrowing (http://www.maxmatic.com/electrak.htm), carrying more batts around? Not practical for mowing, I know, but for some jobe more batts act as good counterweight.

Just thinkin' atchya.

Jeremy,
I have much the same sort of plan. My tractor is a lightweight, with three 80ah 12volt batteries. It's always been a bit short on capacity. I'm in the process of building an onboard APU using a small, 2-cylinder engine coupled  to a 100A alternator. As Max suggested (in another message), I will derive the 38 volts by controlling the field winging on the alternator.
This is a small part of a much larger project, so it is still on the drawing board. I'll post pix and progress as it happens.

I just purchased an e12 unseen for 350 dollars, but in good condition with a front mower and snowblade.  I produce all my power from solar and wind supplemented by generators, and it is difficult to supply the 10 KW to fully charge the batteries.  I plan to charge my batteries from a small 3 horsepower turning a 60 amp alternator and controlled for 36 Volts.  When batteries are low, turn on the generator, instead of pulling in to plug in just charge while you mow.  I'll post my progress.
