John, My JD-90 that I run now, a Cub Cadet and Case that I had all used
the normal "rear" engine chassis complete with tranny (transaxle) and
hooked up the drive moror on a pivot so it could be rotated for clutch
action on a v belt. They use seperate mower motors, (2) swinging a 16'
blade.
Wonder where you are located, I have at least one JD chassis and mower
deck, no motors that would make a starting point.
