i heard it the other way, that the short fat motors were early, and later 
changed to skinny motors.  also heard that on fat motors, its the magnets 
that tend to come loose, and on the skinny motors its the armature thats 
more 
likely to burn out.  they're interchangeable, and i'd go more for 
individual 
motor quality than for fat or skinny.  good luck, jon k
