This is my recommendation.  

The first time I replaced the lift strap, I used a tiedown strap that I'd 
modified.  After a couple of months, my stitching loosened and it let go.  
Clunk.

If you have more time than money, making it yourself is probably OK -- but 
make sure your stitches are good.  Otherwise, given what Bill charges for 
a 
"turnkey" solution, I just don't think that homebrewing it is worth the 
hassle.

And besides, buying from Bill keeps him in business and supporting the ET.
