I've used stainless hardware on EV batteries for years with good results.
Couldn't have told you what the hardness is; I order it through the
local hardware store. Larry, thanks for the strength warning.
I haven't used antiseize on it (probably should), but generally spray
each connection with battery terminal goop. One person I know of paints
the terminals (after making solid connections) with enamel paint -- an
interesting idea, but I haven't tried it.
I've not sprayed the terminals on the ET since I'm using gel batteries,
therefore I have no acid mist problems.
I do recommend lockwashers if you are using terminal lugs. Split washers
are OK, but stainless dished washers are much better if you can find
them. I think they're also called Bellville washers or maybe that's a
brand. You should still check them for snugness now and then.
