Yep, insulation would make a difference, but there isn't much room in
those battery boxes. At least a little styrofoam on top would help.
If you could find flooded nicad batteries the size of golf car batteries,
that would be ideal (but expensive). They lose very little capacity to
cold, even in subzero temperatures.
