Dave, the reason the normal auto alternator is not efficent is that it
is designed to produce max output at about 3000 plus RPM. Generators (I
believe) would max a considerably less. There used to be some
commercial alternators designed for windpower that had a 7-800 RPM cutin
and under 200 RPM max. Don't know if still available and cost.
