Thanks, Jim. It's not the seat switch, and unless the brake switch has
separate loops for PTO and drive, then it's not that.

I have shorted the third wire back to the one on the middle lug of the DPST
PTO switch having verified that the current through it is immeasurably 
small
when the PTO is engaged. I'm ready now, I think...
