I too have found mouse nests under the control area. The fuzz
can stop a contactor or relay; it won't run. However, I don't
think those critters like the smell of sulfuric acid; if you top
the batteries often they seem to stay away. Yes, I know, I probably
take a year off the life of the batteries (I've only been doing this
for 6 years-- first set is still fine thank you) but I think it's a
small price to pay from keeping from having to remove mouse nests.
No, I don't ever charge into the 'danger' area.
BTW; yes, indeed, mothballs are toxic (you can look up toxic levels
for most household items in any large library, and find that things
like sugar are also mildly toxic, perhaps 1% as bad as mothballs)
but since I want to kill mice, or keep them away, do I care? I once
had a Collie eat 8 (yep, 8!) boxes of mouse poison. She didn't
even appear ill. On calling the vet he said that I should watch her
but a 30# dog can handle that much mouse poison, or even a single
box of rat poison. Not that I'm suggesting feeding dogs on mouse
poison... but she was killed several years later by a car.
