There were some 110 VAC splitters sold a while ago. They used a worm
gear to drive the wedge (two-way), reversed the motor to go the other
way as the travel was quite slow. If I remember, they could'nt handle
really tough wood but were ok for light stuff. If you could find one,
probably an old blower motor would work for power.
Me, I do it the easy way, cut up small wood with an electric chain saw.
