Not a dumb question; it would seem intuitive that it doesn't. And in
fact some people have had success with getting very old batteries to work
again by reversing them.
But the positive and negative grids of modern batteries have different
formulations. When the negative plates are used as positives, they
literally crumble. A reversed battery should be "forwarded" as soon as
possible, and in any case will have a shorter life and lower capacity.
