The JD is a 36 volt battery powered riding mower using 3 12 volt batteries.
Its vintage is about the same as GE-E's, '72-'74. It looks like one of
their small gas riders, used the same cowl and chassis. Has a about 5" dia
drive motor belted thru a belt tightening clutch to a 3 sp + rev transaxle.
Uses two mower motors driving 16" rotary blades for a 32 " cut on a belly
mount mower. Has built in charger that recharges controlled by a timer,
then
drops to a trickle charge. If the charger is working correctly it also
gives a "bump" to full charge rate every several hours. I get about 32 or
4
years out of a set of batteries, can mow average grass at about an acre per
charge, maybe 1 1/2 acres.
I like it, quiet, efficient, don't know why JD isn't still making
them.Without the speed control electrics, simple to maintain and seldom has
any problems.
