Rhett, now, a clarification of the previous clarification.{Boy, does that
sound lame!}C.B. 1 is the 100A Klixon® thermal breaker on the outside of
the
traction motor case. C.B, 3 lives on the inside of the field case. "He" is
not a circuit breaker in the "in the line of fire" mode. "His" job is to
react to internal motor temperatures, and cause the "RTN'® circuit to drop
out if things get too hot. It works very well ,also, as just about the time
you notice that "warm electrical equipment' smell, everything shuts
down!Since the E-20 I-5 motors are a bit more huskier than the E-15
traction
motors, and are therefore more likely to be asked to "do the impossible",
this added protection is most welcome. Note again, that C.B. 3 reacts to
long term, low level abuse, i.e. WOT operation with the field fully
weakened.C.B. 1 opens more in response to large, comparatively quick
overcurrent situations.Hope this clears the fog I've created!Be EVing you!

Thanks for the fine description of the set of circuit breakers on
the E-20. You mention that C.B. 1 and C.B 3 are located on the
traction motor. I presume that C. B. 1 is internal and C. B. 3
is the Klixon thermal switch bolted to the outside of the motor.
I'll have to look again for the wiring to C.B. 1.
Your help is much appreciated.
