I saw a fairly clean E-8 (upgraded with 6v batteries) being offered for 
$500 recently.  It's been for sale for a while, so I'd say that's too 
high.  If yours is rough, adjust down further.

A large-frame tractor in fair condition, running, with old batteries, no 
structural rust, seems to go for around $200 - $300, often including a 
mower deck.
