(ET) e15 Steering

I'm trying to change out the sector gear and pinon which are worn on my 
E15. i
have ordered same from bill Gunn at Technical Service. Any hints on doing 
this?
I have removed the steering wheel and loosened the collar on the steering 
sahft
so i can pull the pinion and shaft out of the bearing/holder at the bottom 
of
the shaft. Now i've loosened the bearing/holder and am trying to remove the
horizontal shaft. Can't seem to move this loosened mass around to drop the
horizontal shaft out.
