The HARD part is finding the tractor. The batteries are a peice of cake
after that.

If you buy high end batts, like Trojan T-105 (is that the 6v version?) then
you'll pay ~$70 per batt or ~$420 for the pack. If you buy the same SIZE
batts but bargain golf-cart batteries at CostCo or Sam's, you'll pay more
like $40 each.
You get about what you pay for with these things. The Trojans will last
about 7/4ths as long as the bargain batts, and all batteries benefit from
good maintenance.
Range? Mow for an hour and half, less if it's hilly, less if the grass is
long. Y'know.
Get the old batts with the tractor for sizing; plus, at places like Sears
(who sell good golf cart batts) you get $5 off or so for each batt you turn
in.
