Following up to John's earlier email. Noon at ON can be a fun time! Bring family and friends for hanging out. Arthur and I will provide treats (usually berries + commercial baked goods, and sometimes lemonade).
If you want to spend more time at the church that day, the little kid craft project on offer at ON is make-your-own paper signal lantern (that's all I know about it). There is a morning prayer service at 9 AM featuring shape note singing. The Declaration is read on the other odd-numbered hours (11, 1, 3).
The disappointing news about later in the day is that the powers-that-be of the Pops Esplanade concert have decided again not to have the bells amplified. I just got confirmation of this from the sound person. I think we will be mentioned in the program, but don't suppose anybody farther away than the street corner will be able to hear us over the sound of the howitzers.
The 1812 is back at its traditional position very near the end of the concert (ie probably about 10:15 PM).
What do people want to do? Arthur and I are happy to bring picnic food, ring, and watch fireworks, but are willing to be outvoted if people feel it is not worthwhile.
Also, please sign up for service ringing on the 7th.
