Hi Dee

The boring bits first:
Lloyds TSB payments 18/06/05 Geoclassics US $
225.75
                                   18/06/05 Boston Pewter Company US
$
216.40
Managed to get ball point ink on my crag hopper trousers could you bring some ink remover to La Rochelle also got fat on trousers have got rid of some of it using Shout but still stained any ideas how to wash that out.
Very careless I know.
Could not open the diary you did for me the computer I used denied
access
suppose because could contain virus. Could do with a 2005 diary if you
can
find one may be one at Law & Co if nowhere else.
Can you make sure you've room in your bags to take back the fossils I
bought
two boxes not very big but better if they were your hand luggage than
going
onto Portsmouth as we might leave bags on the Hatherleigh. Also thinking
of
getting them to take a few cases of wine back for us.
Thoughts for when I get back are see UKSA employment section about
likely
jobs then see mum then Fastnet race & Cowes week then wrists then while
they
are healing a week away somewhere quiet with you before I get a job
unless
one turns up I really want which messes all that up. Will probably go
temping as an accountant if all else fails but if I'm going to stay in
accountancy how about a couple of years in New Zealand?

You might have some photo's sent to you of ringing at old North Church
so
don't assume an unknown file is to be deleted. If you're really not sure
the
thing to do is open it in explorer at the library etc so it's not down
loaded to our computer till you're sure it's OK.
Nothing else personal to tell you except I love you XXX

Pindar News 6.1

We're off again after boozing and fooding out in Boston. Funny how each
stop
over I've felt ready to go by the time the next leg starts. Dee says she
hopes I'll not be like that when I get home - ready to move on after a
couple of weeks!!

Boston turned out to be a much more interesting stop over than expected. After the hassle of getting a visa to get into the States it was the one
place I was not bothered about visiting. I'm not a city person but
found
Boston a great place to be. Pretty clean and safe to walk around alone
if,
like anywhere, you're sensible and again the people we I met who made me welcome made the stopover. Highlights included new bell ringing contacts
like Don, Britt, Di, Cally, Mira, James, Oliver and Nancy who welcomed
me to
ring at two new towers - Advent and Old North Church - invited me to a
party
at Di's, sorted out best places for me to get my shopping done, good
cheap
restaurants and the best candy store in town for my treats bag for the
next
leg. Then in return for showing Capt Kraft round our little yacht there
was
the return invite to look round the Shreveport - a US Navy Landing Craft
support vessel. Also a surprise invitation to join the Pindar party at
the
British Consul General again as a result of showing someone round the
yacht
 - Victoria and Annette. At the British Consul I met up with Alice who
I'd
been talking to with her friends in the bar where we were to have the
crew
meal. I'd been telling her I'd given up my job to take up the Challenge.
I
had mentioned " If your life ever passes in front of you make sure it's
worth watching" as my reason for doing it. now she tells me that as a
result
of listening to my story she had taken her own challenge in had and
sorted
her job out. I am amazed to think I've influenced someone so much.
Thanks to all for making my stay exciting and interesting.

So we're off on the next leg. Bit of a bummer on the start line got
there a
bit too quickly and has to tack to stop ourselves going over early. As a
result we were the last over by a big margin but without penalties of a
720
degree turn. We've picked up some places after hard work short tacking
out
of Boston harbour and running into light airs. The whole fleet ran into
an
expected wind hole and drifted slowly through the night. At one point we
drifted so close to Save The Children, or was it them drifting down on
us,
that we got fenders ready in case we nudged each other. It was close
but no
bump and we overtook them strangely to their leeward where you would
have
expected a wind shadow.
As I write we are approaching the Grand Banks (some of the world's
richest
fishing grounds) and moving out of American waters into Canadian waters.
A school of dolphins approaches the boat and come to play in the wake
and
bow wave of the boat. I stand leaning over the bow and look directly
down at
them. These are really big specimens white underbellies, grey flashes
down
their sides and black on top. They are so close I can see right down the
vent hole on the top of their heads as it opens when they surface to
expel
air and breath.

All is quiet and time now for my bunk.

Love Nick

Tuesday 22.6.05

Hi folks,
I'm back again at my computer thinking a) how glad I am that we bought a
new one before Nick left and b) how relieved I am that we got on line,
otherwise I wouldn't have been able to keep in touch with my sailor and
wouldn't have had the thrill of sending news all round the world.
I can't believe that in less than 2 weeks I shall be going to La
Rochelle and just over a week after that it will all be over.
Thanks to those of you who've put messages on www.teampindar.com
already.
Keep bombarding them with messages for Nick to raise his profile and
keep him happy.
Do let me know if you're thinking of going to Portsmouth for the finish
and let me have your mobile numbers so that we can meet up. Mine is
07971970739. I shall be there from about 10am and will be going out on
Pindar's boat the "Hatherleigh" to hopefully see them over the finish
line, then returning to see them onto the pontoon at Gunwarf Quay. Only
2 supporters per crew member are allowed on the pontoon so we'll meet up
with all the rest on the quayside.
Well, enough from me and over to Nick.
Dee
