2/23/2006 Physics Colloquium: Adam G. Riess
Physic Colloquium Series at
MIT
2/23/2006
Adam G. Riess, Space Telescope Science Institute
Dark Energy and Kinematics from SNe Ia at z>1
Type Ia supernovae (SNe~Ia) provide the only direct evidence for an
accelerating universe and the existence of dark energy. We are in the
third year of the first space-based search and follow-up program to find
SNe Ia at z>1 using the Hubble Space Telescope to further explore the
kinematics of the expanding universe and to characterize the nature of
dark energy.
Time: 4:15pm
Place: Room 10-250
Refreshments will be served in the Physics Undergraduate Lounge (8-329)
at 3:45pm
