Larry Abbott, Brandeis University
"Scale-Invariant Dynamics in Neural Systems"

Neural systems exhibit temporal dynamics over time scales ranging from milliseconds to years.  This often results in power-law rather than exponential  decays and, in general, produces dynamics that cannot be characterized by any fixed time constant.  I will discuss ways of modeling and thinking about such systems and, in particular, explore the functional implications of scale-invariant dynamics for memory.

Time: 4:15pm
Place: Room 10-250
Refreshments will be served in the Physics Common Room (4-339) at 3:45pm
