Simons Foundation invites applications for the Simons Fellows in Theoretical Physics program, which enables research leaves providing time away from classroom teaching and academic administration. Purpose: Research leaves
from classroom teaching and administrative obligations can provide strong intellectual stimulation and lead to increased creativity and productivity in research. The
Simons Fellows program is intended to increase the opportunity for such leaves, and to allow extension of sabbatical leaves to last for a full academic year.
Grants awarded in 2011 will be restricted to sabbatical-eligible faculty who wish to use the grant for the purpose of extending a 1-semester sabbatical leave to a full academic year. For example, a Simons Fellowship with leave taken in the fall of 2012 could
be paired with a sabbatical in the spring of 2012 or in the spring 2013. Description:
Awards will be based on the applicant's scientific accomplishment in the five-year period preceding the application and on a judgment of the potential scientific impact of the leave
period. Funding: 50% salary support (up to $100,000) and an additional $25,000 for expenses related to the leave and 20% indirect costs.
Duration: Fellowships may begin no earlier than July 1, 2012 and covers a continuous period of one or more academic semesters. Eligibility Requirements:
