In 1991, the Smith Family Foundation created a program to identify and support promising junior faculty
who are beginning to establish their own laboratories and research programs. Now in its 20th year, the Program has funded 120 scientists for a total of $20 million. Applications may focus on all fields of basic biomedical science. Investigators in the physical
sciences (physics, chemistry, and engineering) with biomedical research projects are also encouraged to apply.
