Black Hole Spindown by Light Bosons

Andrei Gruzinov
NYU

Abstract:

Light bosons, if they exist, are emitted by astrophysical black holes (via the superradiant instability). The boson emission rate and the resulting black hole spindown rate are calculated. The potential of black hole observations for ruling out (or discovering) light bosons is discussed.
