Jocelyn's trip to Story Land with Mommy, 2008

Two years ago we went to Story Land, and the trip was not a great success, mostly because the kids wanted to do different things, and we only had one grown-up, and unfortunately, even though I had brought a 10-year-old, the policy is that you need an 18-year-old to ride rides with small children.

So, this year, while Perry's school ran two days longer than Jocelyn's, I took Jocelyn to Story Land, just me and her. We had a grand time! The drive up was a little long, but we did get a swim in the motel pool before bed.

The next day, a Monday, was a wonderful day to be at Story Land. A lot of kids are still in school, so they aren't at the park, and it was raining a little bit, so anyone who lived nearby and was thinking of taking a day trip, would probably change their mind. It was only those of us with long drives and motel reservations that actually went. No lines! We rode on every ride, most of them more than once, and some of them as many as eight times. Several times we were the only people on a ride. Jocelyn loved the flume ride, she enjoyed the roller coaster (bigger than the kiddie roller coasters you get with carnivals, but smaller than a "real" roller coaster you would see at a larger amusement park), and I think her favorite ride was the "Turtle Twirl", which some might know better as "Tilt-a-Whirl". She just loved the spinning rides, and the best part of the flume ride was the drop. I'm definitely looking forward to a few years from now and Six Flags!

It was a very long day. We started with a swim in the motel pool, then a full day at Story Land, and another swim in the motel pool. During that second swim, Jocelyn put her hand to her mouth and said "something's wrong." What was wrong was that her wiggly tooth had nearly come out! I told her to close her mouth and we got right out of the pool. It took a little more wiggling by me to get it fully out, and this process was scary, although I think not painful. As soon as the tooth was dealt with, she wanted to go back in the pool! So we did, but not for very long because by this time I was quite exhausted and needed my dinner and my bed.

Tuesday we spent seeing some of the shows and riding the rides that we had enjoyed most until about 2 PM, when it was time to hit the road. It took until 3 PM before we actually got in the car, but I had expected that.

We had only a few rough patches where overtiredness and overexcitedness played out in the expected fashion. All in all it was a marvelous trip. I want to go again! More accurately, I want to go to a bigger park after she's 48 inches tall.

Pictures.
