Events:

Department Colloquia

The colloquia in the Physics and Astronomy Department at Tufts University are predominantly aimed at physicists (astrophysicists included!) and physics graduate students. In recent years, a young astronomy group focusing on observational extragalactic astronomy has been quickly growing, and about half of the colloquia focuses on either astrophysics or cosmology.

Our colloquia are held on Friday at 3 pm, preceded by a light refreshment with cookies and coffee/tea at 2:30 pm.

Astronomy Lunch Seminar on Friday

The Astronomy group has initiated this series of seminars on Fridays presented by postdoctoral researchers and senior graduate students from other universities and astronomy departments in the Boston area.

Presentations are held on Friday, at 1:30 pm (for an hour), in the Collaborative Learning and Innovation Complex (CLIC), room 310. If you would like to present your research work in this venue, please don’t hesitate to send an email to Danilo Marchesini.

Paper Discussion

The Astronomy group, jointly with the Cosmology group at Tufts University, have started this weekly event to foster paper discussion within the Astronomy and Cosmology groups at Tufts. Two papers are selected from the arXiv and briefly presented and discussed. Undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, and faculty are all invited to attend.

We meet every Thursday, at 9:30 pm (for an hour), in Room 404 of the Collaborative Learning and Innovation Complex (CLIC). If you are interested in joining the Paper Discussion on Thursdays, don’t hesitate to send an email Kalina Nedkova (graduate student).

AstroPh Fast&Furious

The Astronomy group meets once a week to browse and talk about the most interesting papers which have recently appeared on the arXiv. Each member of the astronomy group briefly (5 min) presents a paper. We meet every Wednesday, at 12:30 pm (for half an hour), in room 404 of the Collaborative Learning and Innovation Complex (CLIC). Everyone’s welcome!
