Dear Leon,
The National Society of Black
Physicists<http://mk1.netatlantic.com/t/12580149/213478775/121530/0/>
(NSBP) and the IT company
ScholarFind<http://mk1.netatlantic.com/t/12580149/213478775/121531/0/>
have developed web services whereby students as well as graduate and
internship programs can extend their options for admissions and recruiting.
These services are available to all physics and astronomy students, and we
invite all your majors to do so.
Using these services your students can upload to a database all the
essential elements of a graduate
school<http://mk1.netatlantic.com/t/12580149/213478775/121534/0/> or
internship<http://mk1.netatlantic.com/t/12580149/213478775/121533/0/>
application including academic history, transcripts (as PDF copies), GRE
scores, work/internship history and a personal statement (as a PDF). Blind
letters of recommendation can also be uploaded by the writers themselves.
Your graduate and REU programs can subscribe to these respective
databases. And from there you can contact students with invitations to a
campus visit, or with offers of admissions and financial aid.
These services lower one of the barriers to applying to graduate school
and internship programs by providing an opportunity for students to put
their credentials in front of multiple programs at multiple institutions
with a single "application"(*<x-msg://15/#application>). At the same time
programs can more effectively recruit students that may not otherwise
apply to their programs.
Please forward this message to your faculty/staff colleagues, especially
to those involved with student advising, and most importantly please
encourage your students to use these important career services.
For more information visit the graduate school service website at

where there is an FAQ
page<http://mk1.netatlantic.com/t/12580149/213478775/121535/0/>. For the
internship site visit

or ScholarFind customer service at customer service scholarfind

Sincerely,
The team at ScholarFind and NSBP
(*) The service makes it clear to students that they will still have to
complete institutional admissions and financial aid applications. But
this service is a tool for programs and students to identify one another
as possible opportunities.
