Minutes of February 6, 2021 Physics Theorynet Meeting

Physics TheoryNet Meeting, February 6, 2021

Virtual place on Zoom

MINUTES

--------

Attending:

Tim Fitzgibbon, Dr. William W Henderson Inclusion School, Dorchester

Scott Goelzer, Coe-Brown Northwood Academy NH

Michael Hirsh, Needham HS

Bryan Dunn Roxbury Latin HS, West Roxbury

John Tassinari, Xaverian Brothers' HS, Westwood

Nishant Agarwal, UMass Lowell

Tomasz Taylor, Northeastern University

Good excuse: Mike Wadness, Medford HS

-------------------------------

We welcome two new teachers, Bryan Dunn from Roxbury Latin and John Tassinari from Xaverian Brothers. Bryan is "scholarly" a grandson of Rick Dower who was one of the founding fathers of Theorynet and a very active participant for many years.

We also have two new faculty members: Nishant Agarwal from UMass Lowell and Brian Swingle who has recently joined Brandeis University.

In the introductory discussion, we exchanged our experiences with remote/hybrid/in class teaching. It is hard for teachers to double-up teaching in class and to deliver materials to students who prefer (or need) to stay at home.

We also reported on some visits: Ken Olum visited Michaels's classes in Needham, talking about gravitational wave detection while Tom "went" far away :) to Burr & Burton Academy, Manchester VT, to visit Nicole's classes. It seems that students enjoyed these visit, some sort of a break from bleak daily Covid routines.

The pairings for the rest of the year are:

Scott G -- Jesse T

John T -- Nishant A

Tim F -- Jim H

Michael H -- Brian S

Michael W -- Brent N

Bryan D -- Matt H

with Tom T remaining as a libero in soccer terms. We hope that visits will take place as soon as possible because who knows what happens later in the year.

Teachers who did not attend the meeting, please contact Tom who will arrange a visit with one of the faculty. Faculty who did not participate, please contact Tom who will pair you.

The next meeting will take place at the end of May.
