I recall carrying out the "original" Millikan experiment with oil drops when I was a student at ETH Zuerich: I went almost blind on one eye for looking through the ocular for hours and also half demented for continually loosing track of my oil droplet. I concur with you that the tiny latex spheres (with standard predetermined diameter) are far more convenient. Farhad
