That said, I'm personally not entirely comfortable with a team name that could be interpreted as rubbing Katherine's nose in ACRONYM's demise. I know that that's not the spirit in which it is intended, but especially after the bad blood of last year's Bomber's split off, my inclination would be to err on the side of caution.

As for strategies for winning, I don't think that it's contrary to the team mission statement. After all, as Eric has pointed out once or twice over the past couple of years, "Winning is fun, too." Trip, would you be interested in a strategery position in my cabinet? Offhand, I think both planning Friday night schedule and working with Tinhorn on not just making sure that the Wiki works, but also that we understand how to make the Wiki work for us, would fall into this category, though any other suggestions would be welcome.

Ooh, I like Mynonym.  Second the motion.

Perhaps it's too early to talk about this, but what the heck.  I know
that Palindrome plays for fun, with winning secondary to that, but there
are a lot of us who would dearly like to win.  Looking back on last
year, I think it's easy to pinpoint the main reason we weren't in the
running at the end: we had almost no one working the Friday night shift,
which gave Bombers and Codex (who certainly did) a huge advantage over us.

I remember coming back to the room early Saturday morning and there were
only two people in the room, and they'd been struggling over a puzzle
for several hours.  I was able to quickly solve two puzzles -- they'd
started them and just needed a fresh pair of eyes, so it's not like I
did anything special.  If we'd had a decent-sized group of people
working throughout the night, I think we'd have made a lot more progress.

So my suggestion is that ten or so people volunteer to take that shift.
Obviously everyone should be around for the start of the hunt -- that's
an exciting time, it's when the theme is revealed, etc.  But if we had
10 people who were willing to go to bed at 6 PM or so and come back
around 1 or 2 AM, that would really help things.  (I know everyone
thinks "Oh, I can stay up the whole time if I have to" -- but invariably
people crash, and if they're all doing it at the same time, that's
problematic.)  And it's not like we need 35 people in the room during
the day.

I'll be the first to volunteer for the night shift -- anyone willing to
join me?
