Sorry for the lateness of this - it's been a busy week...
Slightly smaller than usual crowd this time due to various vacations,
illnesses, and other commitments, but this worked fine, and actually allowed for
a much smoother Haste Worte game Saturday night (thanks again, Rob!). There were
over 20 people on Friday, more than 40 Saturday, and nearly 10 Sunday, with a
couple of people coming all 3 days.
It was great that my mom was able to make a brief appearance. Thanks to all
who have lent their support and wishes during this difficult time. Those who were
there Saturday afternoon got the chance to see firsthand how well she is doing
these days :)
It was also nice to see Rick for the first time in ages. Hearing about
other people's 60 hour work weeks makes me really apppreciate only having to
work 4 days a week.
I had debated putting a sign on the door Saturday saying that the party had
been postponed, but I wasn't sure how many people would remember what day it
was. At least Rob acknowledged the occasion with his Haste Worte category of
epochs within the Pleastocene period (or something like that).
We didn't get to play any Cosmic Encounter this time, but I have already
spoken to Greg and Peter Olotka, and we will coordinate the Summer party so that
they can once again attend. There were plenty of other games all weekend,
though. A high point was that I managed to avoid my customary last place in
"Wise and Otherwise". There was a spirited "Celebrities" game - someone finally
put in a name that got even more complaints about obscurity than my usual fare -
thanks to Naha's secret crush on "Cherry Poptart".
Once again, Cheryl and Aaron M managed to hit the jackpot a few times on
the slot machine (It's more a game of skill than luck, apparently, though I
still can't do it).
Got to help plug in Judy's car (I really need to clean up the garage one of
these days to make the outlets accessible without climbing over all the junk).
Maybe LD and Leah should consider an electric car. Fortunately they made it back
home to Delaware despite breaking down in NJ on Sunday night.
Thanks to everyone who brought food and games. Greg is insisting he won the
chili cookoff as his pot was nearly empty at the end, and mine half full (though
mine was twice the size to begin with!). I'll call it a draw again... And who
brought the best chicken??
Along with the good things come the bad. Due to poor planning, we lost an
hour of gaming on Saturday night - "stupid spring forward". It always seems I'm
in the middle of a game when someone decides to put in one of the movies I had
hoped to watch. Only got to see a small portion of "Monsturd" and "Man with the
Screaming Brain", though I have since watched the latter. I also managed to miss
the "Is the Borg a race or not" argument while I dealt with a thief. Yes, for
the 2nd party in a row, I caught this person stealing from me. Last time, it was
stuff out of my refrigerator (I wonder what else is missing, as I did not think
to check her bag.) This time, someone else saw it (Thanks, Kimberly) and a
search did find other things in the bag, including a hologram
cup .Unfortunately, you never know what will walk into your home when you
open it up to strangers :(
But enough of that. I hope everyone else had a great time, as I did.
The next party should be late late June or early July. I hope to see
everyone there.
