[Palindrome] Mystery Hunt: job opening(s) -- (important!)
The Ecroforce team has two immediate job openings. We are looking for a
dedicated person (or persons) to be in charge of Organization and
Operations for our team. These are time-consuming jobs, so the
candidate(s) will get to do less solving than others. Ability to go
without sleep is a plus. Pay commensurate with cash value of the Mystery
Hunt "coin." Please apply to Eric Albert alumni brown edu. NOW.

Here's a description of what the ORGANIZATION position entails:
Before the hunt, you will get CC'd on all messages that pertain to
organization, such as lists of things team members are bringing, the
numbers of their cell phones, things they'd like to see brought but can't
bring themselves, and so on.
[NOTE: Tom Weisswange (Al DeSuda) has kindly volunteered to do this part
of the job this year.]
At the hunt, you will be keeping track of *everything*. In particular,
you will be tracking all communications from the hunt masters (puzzles,
hints, corrections, etc.), and all of our team's work on finding the coin
(solutions, ideas, questions for the hunt masters, suspected problems with
puzzles, which team members are working on what, and on an on).
Traditionally, organization tools have included both a large HQ blackboard
and a big binder with a glassine page for each puzzle. Good social skills
are a must.
Nothing is more frustrating than spending two hours solving a puzzle, only
to find out that someone else solved it earlier in the day. OK, one thing
is more frustrating: spending two hours *not* solving a puzzle, then
finding out there's a correction to the puzzle that you hadn't heard about.
During the hunt itself, the organizer will be constantly updated on what
members are doing and how it's going. Likewise, the organizer will keep
members updated on how everybody else is doing, and what still needs to
get done.

Here's a description of what the OPERATIONS position entails:
Making sure that all new puzzles/hints/corrections are printed out, in
suitable quantities, collated and stapled, as soon as they're available.
Monitoring whether all our equipment is running and, if it's not, fixing
it or getting someone to fix it. Monitoring whether we have enough
supplies (especially laser-printer paper!) at all times, and, if we don't,
going out and getting more (or deputizing someone to do the getting).
(Funds will be supplied by Eric or Ken.) Doing anything and everything
else necessary to keep things running smoothly.

In the past, *both* of the above jobs have been done by one person, or by
a pair of people working together. (Most recently, this was the
outstanding Dan Berlin and his able assistant Jon Penyack, so there are
big shoes to fill.) These jobs are absolutely crucial to the enjoyment
and success of our team. If you'd like to be a key contributor, and
solving puzzles isn't your main focus in life, then -- PLEASE -- volunteer
now!
